The Toyota Sera is one of the most distinctive Japanese Domestic Market cars of the early 1990s, a production model derived directly from Toyota’s late-1980s concept program. Sold exclusively in Japan, the Sera combined compact reliability with dramatic styling, most notably its glass-heavy canopy and signature pivoting butterfly doors, which hinge at the A-pillar and sweep upward into the roofline. The design was so influential that Gordon Murray later cited the Sera’s door concept as inspiration during development of the McLaren F1.
This bright silver example shows 87,000 miles and remains a highly usable and well-sorted driver. It has a very rare and desirable 5-speed manual transmission, paired with Toyota’s dependable 1.5-liter DOHC 16-valve engine. Manual transmission Seras were produced in far smaller numbers than automatics and are increasingly sought after by enthusiasts today.
